Once you schedule, I will reach out to you to schedule two sessions.
Session 1 will be 2 hours long. We will start with going over the safety features and how to appropriately use the tufting gun. Then, we will sketch out your design that will fit in a 20 x 30 inch frame. I recommend simple designs and not anything that requires shading, fine lines, or letters. Coasters or a small rug are favorites of mine to make. You will have the remaining time to learn how to create your design and to practice. During the last 10 minutes you will seal the rug so it does not unravel and it will need to dry for 24 hours before Session 2.
Session 2 will be an hour long. We will add the non-slip side, cut any remaining cloth off, and use a shearer to make sure everything is even to your liking. You will be able to leave with the finished product(s) during this session.
Please bring: medium weight yarn (weight 4) in any colors that you would like to use. You will need 2 balls of each color. It can be bought at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, or Amazon. The brand Big Twist at Michaels is a favorite of mine. Please avoid bringing any yarn that has texture or glitter since it will get stuck in the machine. You can bring any colors or multi colors.
Please have your hair up and out of your face, have close toed shoes, and are not wearing baggy clothes. This is to keep you safe while using the tufting gun and to make sure nothing gets caught in the machine.
I will provide: the tufting gun, tufting frame, monks cloth, scissors, glue, and non-slip siding.

This class is designed to allow students to explore works of famous artists and some painting techniques that relate to them. Each week we will peruse and discuss the work of one famous artist and explore their art and approach to painting (30 minutes on the large screen). Next we will play with this approach by planning and painting our own pieces using prompts, examples, or items supplied for still lifes.
This class is fun, educational, and hands-on and is designed to build community while simultaneously developing and improving painting skills. This class can be as simple or involved as the student desires. The focus is on experimentation and learning using acrylic paints.
Students will be able to take their pieces home to work on them if they choose. All materials will be provided as well as a schedule of artists we will learn about. The artists in this series include Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Georgia O’Keefe, Picasso, (and probably Matisse and Seurat).
Wear something that looks good with paint on it.
Painting with pen, brush, water, and watercolor pencil.
We will be drawing and painting with pen, brush, and water. This class is a little like watercolor, but easier. The special pen we will be using “bleeds” a turquoise and pink color when water meets the ink so there will be lots of relaxed experimentation. All materials will be provided as well as techniques that assist and allow participants to experiment and build painting skills.
First we will play with and practice several approaches to making the most of the color “bleeds”. It takes some practice to figure out how to make the ink flow the way we want it to and create the desired effects. Once we have mastered the basics, we will apply the technique to hand drawn flowers, and finally receive special paper to make a finished piece. A picture will be provided to those who don’t feel confident enough to draw their own. Lastly we have the option to use watercolor pencils to color the flower centers and leaves.
This is very individualized and quite relaxing. You will leave with several practice pieces and one potentially finished flower.
Alcohol ink is a fun and innovative way to create with your imagination. You will learn different techniques to design and create a lovely 24” square silky scarf. Scarves may be used for head, neck, ponytail, purse, or wherever else you see fit for your wearable art. The colors are vibrant and full of energy waiting to be sent into motion by your hand.
Dress accordingly to protect clothing or bring an apron. All materials will be provided. No experience necessary.
Suitable for adults and older teens.

You’ve moved past your first pots. Now it’s time to develop the skills and independence that turn occasional throwers into actual makers.
This 6-week class is for students who’ve completed beginner instruction or have some wheel experience and want structured support as they build toward specific goals—whether that’s achieving a consistent wall thickness, throwing taller or larger forms, mastering lidded vessels, or simply deepening your command of the wheel with a teacher present.
We work in small groups (maximum three students), which means real feedback on what’s actually happening at your wheel, not generic advice. Each session can be shaped around what you’re working toward. Some weeks you’ll focus on a particular technique; other weeks you might spend the full period refining a single form until you understand it at the material level.
This isn’t about learning new steps in sequence. It’s about moving from following instruction to making deliberate choices—understanding why a pot fails, recognizing what your hands are telling you, knowing when to push a form further and when to step back. You’ll develop the spatial sense and problem-solving that separates competent throwing from intuitive making. Six weeks. Small group. Real studio time with someone who can see what you need.

3 Classes, 3 paintings, lots of fun!
The first class will be spent setting the stage for our flowers and experimenting with ways to create abstract backgrounds using palette knives, brushes, and various common items. We will learn about complementary colors and why they work so well against each other, then we will play. We will be working on three separate pieces which will allow us to experiment and move between each piece while another is drying. At the end of class we have our abstract backgrounds and discuss placement and types of flowers that might work with our backgrounds before we head home. Class 2 will allow us time to decide on our flowers, and their placement before we block them in. We will learn some brush techniques that best suit our choices, and progress on our pieces. Our third lesson will allow us time to address challenges and add details to finish our pieces.
This can be as simple or complex as the painter desires.
Ages: 16 and up.
Basic painting supplies will be included (palette knives, brushes and basic paint colors, and an 11x14 canvas).
Wear something that looks good with paint on it.

This playful new program at Stella’s Art Gallery is the perfect way to bridge imagination and creativity! Bring a friend and join Carol Agnew on this unique journey! Come for one class or all four. Kids class 4:30-5:30. Adult Class 6:15-7:45.
Concept: Participants transform short written prompts into visual art, proving how one phrase can spark infinite interpretations.
Weekly Refresh: Five new prompts every Monday. Choose one and turn it into a unique creation. (Ex: ‘What I saw before the candle went out!,’ ‘A door to…’,
‘And then… it melted!.’)
Expert Guidance: You'll have direct support to experiment with different mediums and styles.
The Spotlight: We’ve dedicated a special space on our "Do You See What I See?" entry wall just for this program. It’s a rotating celebration of how different minds interpret the same simple words. You might see a "City Life" prompt turned into a neon abstract by one person, and a detailed sketch by another! Join us!

Acrylic painting class with Tanya Hough
Beginning with simple shapes we will be painting an octopus on an 11x14 canvas. Students can reference one of my photos or start from scratch and draw their own. We will learn basic techniques that assist and allow participants to improve their skills. This is for all skill levels and can be as simple or complex as desired.
Group is limited to 8 students ages 14 and up.
Basic painting supplies will be included (palette knives, brushes and basic paint colors, and an 11x14 canvas).
Wear something that looks good with paint on it.
All classes are personalized so a student may repeat a class and get new, personalized instruction and use different examples each time.
With a black canvas, instead of painting in the darks, we will let the dark canvas create the background and dark parts of the painting while painting in the colors. This requires us to shift our perspective. We will need a basic sketch ready before painting. For those with minimal drawing skills, there will be at least 4 images which can be transferred (mostly birds). Those with drawing skills are encouraged to complete a sketch on paper to transfer to the canvas.
Once we have our image, we will begin adding color.
Let’s play with color and pattern!! Tortoises and turtles have repeating patterns that make painting them fun and relaxing. Two templates will be provided to transfer the image onto your canvas (or you can draw your own).
The first class will involve the transfer of the image, selecting your color palette, and the simplest part of painting. This means painting the tortoise/turtle background and beginning the shell design. The second class will be the painting of the pattern where we add a variety of color. Each student can choose to use the examples as a guide or use their own imaginations.
At least four examples will be provided as well as techniques that assist and allow participants to improve their skills.
Group is limited to 6 students ages 14 and up.
Basic painting supplies will be included (palette knives, brushes and basic paint colors, and an 11x14 canvas).
Wear something that looks good with paint on it.

She is a true believer that we are all artists in the process of creating throughout our life’s journey. We can all be empowered to express that artistry in beautiful and unique ways. She looks forward to sharing that “food for the soul” type of energy with you all.

About the Instructor:
Nancy Nelson-Brotz is an award-winning artist as well as an instructor. She has been teaching for many years at Rabbit Run Community Arts Association in Madison as well as being the Visual Art Director for the Ashtabula Arts Association (teaching, coordinating classes, and outreach). She has worked outreach programs at many local schools, senior centers, and camps. Her mediums include oil pastels, needle felting, and mosaics among others. She has spent years exploring and teaching many mediums of art.
If you’ve ever wanted to try wheel throwing but felt a bit intimidated, this is the class for you. We keep things small, relaxed, and genuinely supportive — no pressure, no rushing, just you, the wheel, and some very forgiving clay.
Over six weeks, each session gently builds your skills. You’ll learn the whole process step by step: how to prepare your clay so it behaves, how to center and shape your first forms, what the different drying stages mean (and how not to panic when things wobble), how to trim with confidence, and how glazing brings everything to life.
With a maximum of three students per class, you can bring a friend or family member to learn alongside you, or just enjoy the calm, personal attention without that ‘everyone is staring at my wobbly pot’ feeling.
Students will explore unusual materials including found plastics and metals to Upcycle into accessories. They will navigate hand tools, such as needle nose pliers, wire cutters and wire to master durable pieces that can withstand handling and wear.
