Introduction to Encaustic Printmaking Workshop with Sandy Shelenberger November 11th 9-4pm
Introduction to Encaustic Printmaking: This workshop will introduce you to several methods of using pigmented wax (encaustic) as an artistic medium. You will learn printmaking techniques using a “Hotbox” or electric palette with heated wax. You will use several tools and drawing utensils to make your own marks with the heated wax on a variety of papers.
Checkin with a breakfast (Muffins/Tea/Coffee) starts at 9:00. Workshop begins at 9:30. We will break from noon to 1:00 for Lunch (Sandwiches/Chips/Bottled Water). The workshop will continue at 1:00pm and conclude at 4:00. All Food and Supplies are included in the class fee.
Supplies Included:
Pigmented waxes (R&F paints, Encausiko)
Wax medium (clear)
Graphite sticks/pencils/charcoal
Griddle/Hot Box (Paula Roland, www.paularoland.com)
Electric skillet (optional)
Hog or Natural bristle brushes---no synthetics! I like Hake brushes
Assorted items to add texture (no metal---will scratch plate)
Bondo scrapers, rubber erasers—remove wax, subtractive marks
Baren or Brayer to lightly press the back of the paper when printing
