In these one-on-one lessons, I’ll work with you to discover how easy and fun it is to paint — really paint — on your iPad! The iPad is an exceptional tool because you only need a tablet and an Apple Pencil. No messy supplies, no set-up and clean-up. You can work from the comfort of your sofa or kitchen table! The Procreate app is a complete art studio for creating expressive sketches, luscious paintings, and so much more. It’s easy for a beginner to start using, and powerful enough for the professional artist.
What we will be doing:
In each one-on-one lesson we will work side by side on our iPads
- We will go over the tools, so you are thoroughly comfortable with them
- We will use them to draw/paint so we become familiar with how they work
- The drawing/painting practices are simple and easy for anyone to do
- We will learn the shortcuts and options for each tool
- We will learn to import images as references or as part of the painting
- We will learn to master the power of layers and masks
- We will learn to create and customize brushes
- We will learn to export a finished painting for printing

About the Instructor
After a career in graphic design, Tracy Zakraysek continues to explore the vast possibilities of digital media by painting on the iPad. Her art is filled with vibrant colors and rich textures, often featuring animals as well as landscapes and abstract works. Pottery Box - Open Studio Time
Pottery Box as an open-studio environment during gallery hours for those with basic clay skill and knowledge. Wheel time needs to be scheduled in advance while hand building and glazing can be drop-ins.
For those new to ceramics or wishing to develop their skills see our class schedule.
Studio access allows you to use equipment, decorating accessories and studio glazes. We ask that you purchase your clay from us $15 for 25lbs, but you may use your own glazes -cone 05 to cone 6 glaze.

About the Instructor:
Emily Strogin graduated from Ohio State University in 2021 where she studied ancient Mediterranean history and ceramics. Her work is inspired by ancient utilitarian forms and she uses the coiling and paddling technique found in various traditional cultures to shape vessels. Emily currently displays her work and teaches at Stella’s Art Gallery.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of painting. Beginning with drawing, under painting, glazing, and over painting highlights. Canvas will be supplied. Any basic oil set and brushes (some brushes will be available) are required to bring along with a photo to reference. A still life will also be set up for those with or without a photo reference. Barbara Martin is a Cleveland-based artist whose work is frequently shown in galleries throughout the state. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA) in painting and a master’s degree in education (MEd). Barbara taught in the Centerville City School district for 27 years and still enjoys making art with youngsters.

Learn basic Stained Glass skills using the Copper Foil Method. This class is designed for those without experience in drawing or Stained Glass. We offer a selection of basic patterns you will choose from then create your beautiful suncatcher while learning the art of cutting glass, shaping glass on a grinder, applying Copper Foil, and Soldering it all together with no stress.
Getting Started has never been easier! This class is structured as a Try-It opportunity to allow you to try all aspects of the process without a large investment. After this workshop, you'll take home your decorative window suncatcher and be able to admire it every day! This will be a piece of artwork you'll be proud of and you'll leave knowing how to DO Stained Glass.
Safety First: Closed-toed shoes and pants are required for class. No sandals, flip-flops, or shorts, please. Class is not recommended for ladies who are expecting.

Mixed Media Mandalas with Christine 2024 May 3rd 5-7:30
Mandala is a geometric figure representing the universe, based on a circle. Join us for a 2 ½ hour session, for a time of creating, reflection, and discovery. Mandalas are used by the Tibetan monks and native peoples as a way to connect to spirit, center, and be and express peace. Each month we will create a mandala based on a particular theme.
May : Playfulness or your choice
No experience necessary, just the willingness to be expressive. All materials for your 1st session are provided, adding some embellishment of various forms for fun and joy. Come join us for the ahh moments. Square sizes will vary, no larger than 12” x 12”.
We will explore mixed media techniques: creating a background first then, layering images, materials and objects as our imagination calls to us. If there are materials you really want to work with, please let me know. Feel free to bring multiple images ( no bigger than (5”x7”) of your own too. If you have special natural items or images you wish to use, please bring them along.
We will start the class with a short grounding centering time. And some technique ideas and practice. The rest of the class session is to create and embellish your mandala with guidance.
Also, you may bring in your own items, photos, small found objects and small natural items. Sign up for one class and return throughout the year. Repeat participants welcome. Take a break for a reflective and creative time working with a variety of materials.
About the Artist: Christine, a native Ohioan, has taught both adults and young students over the past 25 plus years, in Ohio and Texas. Her students’ unique expression is a source of inspiration and hope. The natural world, color and pattern drive her creativity of mixed media work. She has exhibited throughout the state of Ohio, in juried and solos shows. Her studio art and art education degree is from
Ursuline College, Pepper Pike, Ohio.

Intro to Encaustics with Angela Simone May 7th 1:00-2:30
Encaustic Supplies included
Introduction to encaustic wax (hot wax) using upcycled and handmade tools to create multiple color inspired prints on a variety of papers. Encaustic wax involves heating a pigmented wax medium on a hot plate and adding paper to create a print.
Students will go home with prints the same day. Up to 90 min of class time with two students at each hot plate. Suitable for ages 13 and up, no previous experience required, family friendly, BYOB 21+.

Angela (Angie) Simone is a Visual Mixed Media and Instructional Artist at Stella’s Art Gallery in Willoughby, Ohio. She is the Owner and Artistic Director of Ethereal Woman Studio. Unlock the magic of the gelatin plate for printing at home with this four week course! The gelatin plate (brand names Gelli Plate or Gel Press) is a wonderful tool to create a variety of prints, whether you want a unique monotype or papers for collage (and many other things in between).
During these studio sessions we’ll unlock how to make the most of your gelli plate, including what materials and tools to use, learning about the two primary ways to build images, and exploring a wide range of paints and tools.
Each week will have a different theme – starting with the basics of applying paint and using your tools, all the way to advanced techniques such as creating monotypes and even printing on ceramics!
We’ll look at the work of different print artists working in different printing mediums and consider what we can bring into the world of gelli plate printing.
Bring your gelli plate and have fun!

What the heck is an inchie and a Twinchie? It is a tiny piece of art that is 1” or 2” square- or you can call it snacksize. Why do these exist? These are great if you have a creative block, you are in a time crunch but need a creative fix, or to honor all things miniature! What do you do with them? There are so many possibilities such as paper quilts, collage, or journal fodder but in this class you will learn several different ways to bind them into adorable petite books. Learn basic Stained Glass skills using the Copper Foil Method. This class is designed for those without experience in drawing or Stained Glass. We offer a selection of basic patterns you will choose from then create your beautiful suncatcher while learning the art of cutting glass, shaping glass on a grinder, applying Copper Foil, and Soldering it all together with no stress.
Getting Started has never been easier! This class is structured as a Try-It opportunity to allow you to try all aspects of the process without a large investment. After this workshop, you'll take home your decorative window suncatcher and be able to admire it every day! This will be a piece of artwork you'll be proud of and you'll leave knowing how to DO Stained Glass.

The iPad is an exceptional tool because you only need a tablet and an Apple Pencil. No messy supplies, no set-up and clean-up. You can work from the comfort of your sofa or kitchen table! The Procreate app is a complete art studio for creating expressive sketches, luscious paintings, and so much more. It’s easy for a beginner to start using, and powerful enough for the professional artist.
What we will be doing:

- We will go over the tools, so you are thoroughly comfortable with them
- We will use them to draw/paint so we become familiar with how they work

Introduction to Wheel-throwing (June) with Cath Smith

This 1:1 instruction will introduce you to the skills needed to throw on the pottery wheel. In this 6-week series, we'll cover the basics of wheel throwing, including preparing the clay, centering, opening, throwing basic shapes, trimming, and glazing.
Perfect for absolute beginners or those with some experience who want a refresh.
Price includes use of the studio wheel and tools, the clay, firing, and glazing of your final artwork.

Pottery Box as an open-studio environment during gallery hours for those with basic clay skill and knowledge. Wheel time needs to be scheduled in advance while hand building and glazing can be drop-ins.

Learn the basic stitches of crochet, how to read a pattern, and eventually create a handmade item to take home! Don’t worry if you know nothing about crochet, the instructor will guide you step by step and provide all the materials necessary. Come to class with nothing but a creative mind and willingness to learn! Project ideas will be provided but ultimately what you want to create is up to you because crochet is completely customizable. Some examples of what could be made include blankets, bags, pillows, tapestries, stuffed animals, baskets, scarves, sweaters and more! Whatever you are unable to finish within class will be given to you to keep crafting at home, meaning you get to keep the yarn and hook at the end of the workshop! I am a retired art teacher. I taught for Ledgemont Schools for 30 years and Berkshire Schools for 3 years. I taught primarily high school art. I loved my job. I loved my students. But, after 33 years, it was time to start a new chapter in my life. Now I am on a journey to discover my own artistic voice. I am a visual storyteller. I find inspiration in the quiet, simple moments of everyday life. These are the moments that speak to my heart. My art reflects the story behind these moments and my images are an invitation to share in that story. I am inspired by picture books, fairy tales and the music that became the soundtrack for my life.
I consider myself an illustrator, photographer, work with paper/book arts. I work with assemblage, glass, and coiled basket techniques.

Fun with Fabric Art Camp 2024 with Mary Urbas June 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 1-4pm
This class will give the student hands-on experience in the different methods and techniques of applying images, colorants, and other surface embellishments to fabric. The finished fabric can be incorporated into quilts, wearables, home furnishings such as pillows, wallhangings and other unique projects.
Experience the different methods of applying fabric dyes and textile paints including: block printing, stamping, handpainting, mono printing, and silkscreen (and squeegee) printing.
Use the silkscreen as a drawing and printing tool. Experiment with open screen monoprinting and hand cut stencil methods. Transfer your ideas and print your designs on fabric, a t-shirt, tote bag, bandana, or paper.
Notes: Additional supply fee included in the camp cost. Students may bring a water bottle and a snack, if you'd like. Please no nut products due to possible allergies.

Art Journaling - How to use thread to embroider and “quilt” on paper by Anna Weisend June 10th 6-8pm
Art Journaling $25/class
In this class we will explore different techniques, products, and prompts monthly. You can attend all classes or just show up when you can. All supplies will be provided, you need only show up with your creativity. However, if you have something of your own you want to include in your journal, feel free to bring it. Open to teenagers and adults.

We have live drawing for June 9th- 6:30 - 8:30! This event will be limited to 20 artists. Fee is ONLY $10. You are responsible for bringing your own art supplies. Model will be 6ft away on a pedestal.

GELLI PLATE STUDIO with Cath June 21, 28 and July 5th 6-8
Unlock the magic of the gelatin plate for printing at home. The gelatin plate (brand names Gelli Plate or Gel Press) is a wonderful tool to create a variety of prints, whether you want a unique monotype or papers for collage (and many other things in between).
During these studio sessions we’ll unlock how to make the most of your gelli plate, including what materials and tools to use, learning about the two primary ways to build images, and exploring a wide range of paints and tools.
Each week will have a different theme – starting with the basics of applying paint and using your tools, all the way to advanced techniques such as creating monotypes and even printing on ceramics!
We’ll look at the work of different print artists working in different printing mediums and consider what we can bring into the world of gelli plate printing.
Bring your gelli plate and have fun!

Galaxy painting with Michelle Saturday June 22nd 2-4pm

We will be covering how to create depth in an acrylic painting by working in layers and glazing using acrylic mediums, acrylic paint & some additional embellishments to create a beautiful & unique galaxy painting. The photos are examples of what we will be creating in class. Price includes all supplies to create one 12"x12" painting, aprons & a handout with helpful information.
This is a fun but messy process, so please dress accordingly.

Intermediate Scratchboard Class with Barbara Martin June 22, 2024 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
In this four to five-hour, intermediate level class you will transfer your
image and learn advanced techniques and tools. You will learn to make
this 8” x 10” image of owl eyes. All materials and supplies are included.
As always, I will share my “tricks of the trade” as well as my go-to
favorite resources. Bring your lunch as we will take a short break at
noon. If you finish early, you are free to leave before 3:00. If you need a
little more time, I can stay a little longer.
Barbara Martin is a Cleveland-based artist whose work is frequently
shown in galleries throughout the state. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree (BFA) in painting and a master’s degree in education (MEd).
Barbara taught in the Centerville City School district for 27 years and
still enjoys teaching classes to both adults and children.

In these one-on-one lessons, I’ll work with you to discover how easy and fun it is to paint — really paint — on your iPad! The iPad is an exceptional tool because you only need a tablet and an Apple Pencil. No messy supplies, no set-up and clean-up. You can work from the comfort of your sofa or kitchen table! The Procreate app is a complete art studio for creating expressive sketches, luscious paintings, and so much more. It’s easy for a beginner to start using, and powerful enough for the professional artist.
What we will be doing:
In each one-on-one lesson we will work side by side on our iPads
- We will go over the tools, so you are thoroughly comfortable with them
- We will use them to draw/paint so we become familiar with how they work
- The drawing/painting practices are simple and easy for anyone to do
- We will learn the shortcuts and options for each tool
- We will learn to import images as references or as part of the painting
- We will learn to master the power of layers and masks
- We will learn to create and customize brushes
- We will learn to export a finished painting for printing
Tools required:

- Procreate application (from the App Store, $9.99)
- Some basic familiarity with the iPad would be helpful
About the Instructor
After a career in graphic design, Tracy Zakraysek continues to explore the vast possibilities of digital media by painting on the iPad. Her art is filled with vibrant colors and rich textures, often featuring animals as well as landscapes and abstract works. Prints are for sale at Stella’s Art Gallery and online at her Etsy shop, tracyzakraysekprints.
Pottery Box - Open Studio Time
Pottery Box as an open-studio environment during gallery hours for those with basic clay skill and knowledge. Wheel time needs to be scheduled in advance while hand building and glazing can be drop-ins.
For those new to ceramics or wishing to develop their skills see our class schedule.
Studio access allows you to use equipment, decorating accessories and studio glazes. We ask that you purchase your clay from us $15 for 25lbs, but you may use your own glazes -cone 05 to cone 6 glaze.

Emily Strogin graduated from Ohio State University in 2021 where she studied ancient Mediterranean history and ceramics. All Around Art Camp… draw, paint and print
Experiment with a variety of fundamental art experiences including drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media and silkscreen printing. This gives the camper an opportunity to learn and experiment with basic art concepts and techniques in a hands-on environment.
MONDAY:
Activity: Color theory. Learn to mix tempera colors and create a color wheel.
Create preliminary drawings for pond painting.
TUESDAY:
Activity: Painting with tempera paint, Pond painting. Create a painting using new skills.
Start design for t-shirt
WEDNESDAY:
Activity: Paint with watercolor: Tropical island painting. Explore different watercolor techniques to create different effects & color wash, drip, and pull out. Create a painting using new skills.
THURSDAY:
Activity: Printmaking. Design and create stamps out of foam paper and block prints using found objects. Print on paper. Create unique cards, wrapping paper.
FRIDAY:
Activity: Printmaking and Wearable Art: Silk screen printing and hand painting on t- shirt.
Finish projects
Organize presentation of created artworks to share with parents.

Second Annual Joseph John Black and White iPhone Rodeo August 3rd 9am-2:00pm

What: The Black and White iPhone Rodeo is a black & white photo contest open to anyone who has a smart phone.
Rules:
- All photos must be taken by your smart phone.
- All photos must be time stamped the day of the contest.
- All photos must be taken within the designated time 9:30 -11:30.
- All photos must be submitted in black and white monochrome, no color.
- All photos must be taken within walking distance of Stella’s Art Gallery.
- Photographers may take as many photos as they would like during the 2 hour
- period but may only submit one photo for the rodeo.
- Preregistration is required.
